Sending the SoulPosted by Eddie (Kyoto, Japan) on 17 August 2007 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio. The practice of releasing lanterns on the night of Obon (Obon is an annual Buddisht even for commemorating one's ancestors), in Hozu-river in Arashiyama, Kyoto, has been practiced since 1949. About 7000-8000 lanterns are released for the soul of those who fell in war and flood.
